Just found the site a few days ago and decided to join. I'm fairly new to go karts I just picked up my first one 3 weeks ago and it's very addicting. Since then I have picked up 2 more and I'm getting a 4th today. One of them I picked up very cheap has a 8hp vertical shaft motor and a 5 speed lawn tractor rear end. It's currently in pieces being rebuilt. Not sure if it's going to be real fast but it has a bigger pulley on the motor so that should help out. I bought a 11hp briggs and a comet 40 series torque converter last week and that's either going on the 2 seater with suspension I'm picking up today or the single seat off road cart I got last weekend. I'll take some pics later

Picked up a carter trail runner today and going to put that 11hp briggs and the comet 40 series on it. It should be a fun cart but I have a hand full of cracked welds and other crap to fix before it's road worthy

The cracks are no problem any suggestions on the jack shaft set up for the torque converter? I've never done one before where should I get the parts? I need a 5/8 shaft then a I guess 10 or 11 tooth gear.

Welcome- You said you got a 40 series clutch -Did any of the karts have a driven unit for the CVT set-up?

I have the driver and the driven torque converter pulleys all I need is to figure out the jackshaft to mount

I don't use the big washers/bearing plates- I use a piece of pipe instead
You'll need to know the size axle sprocket you have or are going to use.

These are some different type set-ups -there are other types
#1 is traditional style- drive chain is right beside the pulleys on drivers side with adjustment plate under the motor.This style can be independent from engine bolts with driven jackshaft plate bolting by itself so you can adjust chain with jackshaft plate and the motor does the belt adjustment.
#2 is off my home built IRS suspension kart with half shafts. Ridgid mount engine with spring loaded chain tensioner to passenger side.This works very well for high torque engines that would put some serious wear/load on your bearings and eliminates the constant chain stretching and adjusting.
#3 is from a heavy duty clutch to Love Joy connection set-up. Use your driven pulley instead of the Love Joy coupler.
These are just to give you an idea of what you can do- The pipe dia. for the bearing suport tubes is usually 1-5/8" o.d.
