I was thinking of building my motor for speed and trying out the 39T torque sprocket. I was going to use a A10 cam and 15g sliders w/ no rev CDI and then use the torque sprocket for the final drive. I was wondering if anyone has had any success with this set up? I was also thinking of going the other route and building the motor for torque and using a high speed gear but I can't seem to find any smaller sprockets. I would think that building the motor for torque and gearing for speed would be the best route but I was wanting some input from you guys before ordering the parts.

It's obvious you have a GY6 - is it a HOWHIT?

ChuckO will probably chime in, but from what I remember he went with the lower internal gearing and ran a smaller external sprocket on his and it would pin 24" Mudlites. Bear in mind however there was no expense spared on his motor it was quite impressive.

If you have a custom sproket made and run smaller tires it would likely work. The problem is you end up with very little gain. Gearing dont change HP. Now if the motor was stroked, port n polish, a11/12 cam, port matched carb, exhaust, and intake with filter, then you have HP. With enternal torque you can then run a stock or top end sproket, 24in tires, 12 or what not sliders, and you have a gain. My 150 was climbing hills at half throtle that basic modded 250's (Uni and cvt)were at wot. It was like a little steam engine. Just chugs up things.

When your dealing with small cc's, there is simply no cheap fix for HP. I had 1600 in a 150 that was close to a stock 250 HP. I got 900 in a polaris 400cc. Guy's dont build motors because it makes finacial sense. A bigger motor is cheaper. You build one to be the top dog in your class. Bragging rights. And to feel like you did something most others cant or wont

I have a 16 tooth drive sprocket with a 39 tooth and it does 40 mph with a stock Howhit.
