turn your key to on not start and jump across solenoid if it stays running[may have to
have someone to push break pedal down] it may be time to replace ign switch.

Missing as in it won't go anywhere and completely shuts off when trying to give it gas?

if i touch that gas it will die.but if i wait for a while it will run fine again until what im thinking it gets really warmed up and dies again.i can go get it the next morning runs fine then here it goes again this is weird.

Mine does that, too. Exact same thing.

If it runs fine cold and the problem starts when hot look to see if the enrichment system is getting power. If it dies out and won't restart than immediatly check for spark. Let us know what you find. TOM

hook battery to it measure first should extend about 1/4 in in 5 min if okay

As olderthan said. Remove the enrichment valve from the carb, some use 2 screws to hold the clamp but most use only one. Once the screws are removed twist and pull the valve from carb. What I do is use jumper wire with aligator clips om the ends,(you can get them at NAPA) than using a razor blade skin just enough insulation on each wire for the clips to make contact with the copper wire. Do not remove the insulation just skin it from one side leaving it attached on the other than fold the insulation over enough to get the clips on, this way allows you to fold the insulation back and using electrical tape to hold in place when done testing. Now if you look at the valve you will see the needle and plunger just below the plunger you will see a spring which will be in the body of the valve. When valve is totally activated the spring will be totally compressed. Connect the battery via jumper wires to the valve wires, after about 2 minutes the valve should be hot turn over and see if the spring is compressed. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. If the spring is compressed completely the choke is good if not choke is bad. Some times it will only move halfway which will cause a rich mixture. Spring should be totally compressed and will notice the needle and plunger have extended outword. TOM

What happens if you just disconnect it all together? Will the engine run?

It will start and run good cold but once the engine warms up it will flood out running rich.

acts just like it isnt getting gas.
it will idle but touch the gas and it will die.

could it be the carb dirty because as soon as choke comes on the thing will die its like its only running of the fuel that goes thru the choke?

If the valve is extended it is working. If extended and hot when removed it will take a good half hour to retract to cold position. Yes the carb could be dirty, the low speed jet if plugged will cause your problem and to a greater degree when hot cause the enrichment circuit is off. Pull the jets and clean them with compressed air if possible also blowing out all orifices the fuel flows thru. If you will be setting up for a while you should alway run the carb out of fuel this will keep the sediment from forming and plugging things up. TOM
