Hey guys,

so for the last 2 to 3 months or so, i've had a broken gokart in my garage. Long story short, I bought it on craigslist, and the reverse assembly/final gear were both missing teeth and I was told it was just a "bad coil"... anyway, all that behind us, I now got a new reverse assembly, and the driveshaft piece is on a "slow boat from china" so anyday when the final gear arrives, I (cross my fingers) should be able to reassemble and drive my gokart for the first time.

During my quest to find these parts I talked to quite a few individuals. One guy I spoke to told me he had the same issue with his chinese gokart. After he got his new parts in he modified it so that it could not go in reverse, but was always in forward. He recommended I do the same, but I kind of would like to have the ability to go in reverse, so I'm not sure I want to modify it in the same fashion.

I've read on the forum here that often times the gears break like that because they just slip out when you get on it really hard. My question is do you all (with chinese models) have problems with your gears slipping out? if so, how do you get around that kind of problem? I've thought about modifying my gear shifter to lock in place, but being as I wasn't the one who broke the gear in the first place, I'm not sure if that will be a good enough fix or not.

I just don't want to have gear problems again after fixing this thing.

Thanks for your feedback.

put a spring on your shifter where it goes into the case-it will help hold you in foward
can still be shifted into reverse

I'd say there are more cases of people revving it up and then putting it in gear. We always put it in gear and keep pressure on the shifter while blipping the throttle until we feel it engage. I don't honestly see a whole lot of reverse assemblies blowing apart but it does happen.

its usualy abuse or misuse-my gy6 based punisher has never tried to jump out of gear
but i know some people w/crossfires do or have-both buggies are made in the same factory baja's are also made there

Good to know. I guess I'll leave mine as is (there is a spring holding the shifter in place) and see how it goes. If I have a problem with it poping out, I'll deal with it then.
