carb probelems,eiectric choke crap,what do everybody suggest for a new carb?Im leaning towards a mukuni with a hand choke:(:suspect:

A manual choke cable is available for the 24mm carb and is alot cheaper than a new carb. It works very well, you just have to get a little longer mounting screws to replace the ones that mount the auto-choke.

I use a Mikuni carb with a hand choke. I live in an area where I very rarely have to use it but I like it better than the electric choke. The only thing is you have to be off the buggy to turn the choke back off.

That won't work. The cable has to have a special plate on the end that matches the mount housing of the auto-choke.

:banghead:Can you tell me where to find a manual choke cable? I think I need to try that. The go kart will crank but won't run. Does that sound like electric choke problem. If the manual cable works I'll order a new electric one. Then again I may choose to keep the manual one.:banghead:

If it starts but won't run it probably is not the choke, if however it does not want to run when warm it could be the choke. It really is not a choke as most call it . It is an enrichment valve. What it does is: when engine is cold the valve needle is retracted allowing a rich mixture of fuel to flow through the enrichment circuit, as the engine is running about 9 volts are applied to the valve heating the capulary which extends the needle until it cuts the supply of fuel from the enrichment circuit thus leaning out the fuel on the warmed engine. To check unplug the wire to the valve, remove clamp screw then twist and pull valve out. Using paperclips shoved in from the back side of plug then using jumper wires put yellow to + and green to - of a good 12 volt source. watch that the needle expands outward as the unit is heated by the 12 volts. Looking in the body you will notice a spring if the spring compresses all the way the valve is working just fine and your problem is else where. I've been in this business since 2004 and have replaced only 2 or 3 enrichment valves. You also have to make sure you have power to the valve coming from the wire harness.

Tom is correct. If it starts and wont stay running its not the 'choke' as we call it. You will experience a odd adjusting rich condition most of the time. I didnt swap my choke out for a manual one, I swapped out carbs. the new carb I got just happened to have a manual choke. Do as Tom has suggested, and check your choke to insure its operating properly.

Thanks for the info Tom and Bam41. After posting this I watched a video I found on here and realized what I needed to do. I soaked the jets for a couple hours and cleaned them again with the same tool as in the video (not sure what it's called but it has many small wires or files to clean the jets). The first time I only blew it out with an airhose. It runs better now than it did when I bought it. I did take some advice from the forum and ordered a 125 and a 130 jet. I plan to tinker with it some more tomorrow. I'm also gonna get a UNI filter. I'm so glad I found this forum. I'm learning a lot. I'm a paramedic/firefighter and have never really worked on small engines until recently. I had back surgery and have been out of work for 2 months. I got really tired of sitting around the house and started fixing things that have been neglected all winter. So far I've fixed 2 lawn mowers, an ATV and my daughter's Carbide 150.
