Anyone interested in a manual clutch for horizontal shaft motors? It would be similar to a slide on centrifugal clutch, but would allow the user to operate the clutch with a cable. This would allow the user to have much quicker starts, feather the clutch around turns, burn-outs, donuts, decompression braking, etc. As far as I know, nothing like this exists...
Thoughts?

Attached you'll see pictures of one of our first prototypes. The clutch was designed by myself and my brother (both engineers).

Also, here's a couple videos of this thing in action.

We'll get there, baby steps first!

Just a couple questions:

What size crankshaft is typical on a mini buggy? Do you guys run a standard PTO crank with the four bolt pattern?

Currently, we are about to go into production with our 3/4" #35 chain unit but we have plans to manufacture a 1" and 1-1/8" unit fairly soon. Also, the design allows for the selection of any sprocket size and pitch above the minimum.

Most production buggys use some variation of CVT mated to the engine, but I would LOVE to see a 21hp v-twin B&S tearin up the trails in a buggy frame. Oh, the possibilities!!

I would say, as 1", and 1-1/4" clutches are almost non existent, you might find your market there. I already like the idea behind choosing your own sprockets, that is a head ache when looking for cent. clutches now.

Just to keep you guys in the loop, here's a set of renderings for the 3/4" 14 tooth #35 chain production parts. The finish will be black oxide coating, these things will look nice!

Hi guys,

I know it's been a long time since I've posted but we've made some great progress since then. Check out our website http://www.downsbrosracing.com For videos and more information!

Not bad, I like the vid where he eats it on the mini bike!

I was wondering what happened to you guys, actually almost forgot about your designs.

honestly, I don't see where it would help us with our buggies, maybe someone could explain how it would to me.

more for the home built using a horizontal shaft engine on a yard kart type of ride ---something metalmech may want to utilize.
