Engine help

After I get a little two seater go cart I want to put some sort of dirtbike/atv engine on it and i was wondering if any of you guys know of some that have a decent amount of power but arent any more than like 100-150 bucks used

What type of kart do you have? Post a pic so we can help you figure out what would work best. I just bought another Honda 200cc 4-wheeler motor off craig's list today for $50. for a spare It's what I have on my kart.

Well im trying to get an idea of how much it will cost me... But i found a really basic frame with wheels and a seat (the one in the link) I wish I could find something exactly like what you have that would be perfect.. But im going real cheap for now, i just want something fun and fast enough to keep me awake lol..

Its fat enough to put an engine next to the driver and i think fat/low enough not to flip unless i really hammer into a turn

If it is then i would put a solid axle on it

Here's the thing, by the time you put the money into converting it to a straight (live) axle, you are in it too high. You can find one with a live axle for that price. Make sure you look for that specifically.

Really? I figured it wouldnt be that much but I've never built one before.. Well i found a few complete frames for pretty cheap. I could find an atv engine or a trail bike engine for one of those, but then steering and wheels and axles are alot...

Its got a live axle all I would need to get for it is an engine and some tires... It looks kinda rough but i think it could be fun. And its a yerf dog

That model Yerfdog has a decent frame but is way to light wieght for anything larger than an 8 hp. I owned one of these and it moves well with a 6.5 engine (35 mph) My opinion is that $150. is too much- seat cover $45., tires $50-75 used, engine $100. used, CVT clutch $200. ,Belt $40., chain $15., brake pad $18.00-- Need I go farther? Keep looking and get one with at least the CVT on it would be my advise. You'll spend almost as much to fix that one as it did when it was new.

Probably the best go kart we ever had as being a candidate for an engine transplant is a Murray Kilowatt. They just have a great mounting platform for just about any kind of engine.
