Need help removing variator and clutch
 

Ok so I have soaked these with Kroil penetrating fluid several times over a week or so and I have been using a 1/2" drive electric impact trying to break loose with no luck on either side. Anything else I can try ? I couldn't believe impact wouldn't break them loose but this compartment looks like it may have have sat full of water for a while cause everything is pretty corroded.

Not sure what kind of electric impact you have, I only use my electric if a breakdown occurs on a ride. I normally use an air impact. Soaking it with Kroil oil should break up any corrosion. If possible try an air impact gun, if not try short bursts with your impact to break it loose. One problem if very corroded is you have dissimilar metals of aluminum and carbon steel which can fuse together making it tough to remove the nut. But that is the case with the variator. The clutch is all steel.It could be your impact does not have enough power especially if it was installed using air.

Air impact should knock them right off, what tq rating is your gun rated for.

I'm not sure how strong the electric impact is so I'll try an air impact. Thanks for the replies.

I had a real hard time with mine. I was first using a Dewalt compact impact and no go. Then I bought an air impact (strongest 1/2" one from Harbor Freight). It also did not budge it.

I made tool to hold it still so I could try a breaker bar. The tool bent. I had to beef up the tool and hold it solid while I hit it with the air ratchet before it finally came off... and mine is brand new.

I'll attach a couple pictures of the rev-1 too after it failed. I didn't take a picture of the rev-2 tool yet.

I use my Snapon 3/8 cordless impact and it has no problem at all breaking it loose. And if that doesn't work I break out the 1/2" one. That one is a beast for a cordless tool.
