Screwed up my variator

So today, I was putting in the red spring and 11G sliders. Got everything assembled and took it for a drive and heard a funky noise like something shattered. Stopped immediately and pushed it back in the garage, took everything apart and the fins on the variator fan were shattered. Turns out my buddy thought one of the rollers was a bearing and put it in the recessed hole for the variator screw in the cover and I am guessing it flew out during the drive. Now I gotta wait for a new variator and my wife is pissed...sigh

Ouch... Shouldn't taker long or cost too much. You'll be up and running soon. (I hope)

Ya it scarred the friction plate pretty badly, my wife was not a happy camper when I told her lol, I have been grounded from doing other upgrades lol

Hey fellas, while I wait for the variator to show up I have a question. With the red spring and 11G sliders, will I have a higher RPM before the clutch engages now?

mb1134 05-20-2013 09:52 AM

Only if you got the 3 small red clutch springs

baker3 05-20-2013 10:13 AM

So what does the red main spring do compared to the stock?

mb1134 05-20-2013 11:34 AM

It is supposed to hold you into low gear longer. From what i am told it also robs you of some top end.

Miamieddie 05-20-2013 11:45 AM

Yes it will require more rpm to push the belt to the top. The red spring will keep a lot of tention to keep ur belt frome slippin. If you go too light on ur weights it will lose the fight against the red main spring. When that happens no matter how much rpm you give it it wont be strong enough and you'll lose top end completly.

Miamieddie 05-20-2013 11:48 AM

You'll also eat up a lot of gas. You go to light on your weights better get a 10gal. Tank.. lol.... just sayin.

baker3 05-20-2013 01:16 PM

So I should have bought heavier sliders than 11G? Should I put the stock spring back in with the 11G sliders?

Miamieddie 05-20-2013 01:21 PM

No 11gram is good its what I got. You should use the yellow spring its what most riders like and prefer.. idk maybe the red is ok just don't go any lighter on the weights ur probably ok.

baker3 05-20-2013 04:22 PM

So I just got it all put back together and took it for a drive and I will definitely be switching to the yellow spring. It revs too high for my liking with the red spring
