Mountaineer RTV50
I got a mountaineer RTV 50 That is in very good shape but the motor has dropped the head off the exshaust valve. I don't know anything about these motor's. IT's missing the flywheel cover. It looks like a Honda GXH50 motor. 1) Is it a Honda motor or a clone ? 2) Can you rebuild them ? 3) Where do you get parts ? 4) Is there any used motor's out there ?
Thanks for any help you may have. Rusty |
my guess would be to start by searching for a serial number on the engine and do some internet surfing to find out exactly what you have. once you figure that out, you will know where to search for parts to get it back in shape.

then put in go karts you will find them olderthan |
port, how is the drive system set up on that buggy? does it have a CVT or just a centrifugal clutch? if you are starting from scratch, you have wide open choices for an engine/trans set-up.

Those don't have a GY6. They have a honda GX50 clone engine on them. The problem is that we have had a few but each had a different drive system on them specific to the buggy. The engines are relatively cheap but you need to have a good pics of the one you plan on buying to make sure the drive system is correct. If you have ever seen the American Sportworks Silver Streak, it has the GX50 clone on it.
Here's a vid of my daughter doing a burnout on hers. They actually run pretty good. |

Do you have any idea where I might be able to get another motor or parts to fix the one I have ?
|
You'll need to do a google search on GX50 clone. You'll likely find that a lot of hits come back to bicycle riders. They are a common engine for guys to use to put on bicycles. Ebay would be my other bet but again you have to check to make sure it is the same drive system.

If you can take some pics of the engine and e-mail them to me : tom@sycpowersports.com Does it have a 2 spd shuttle shift with rev.? If you can take pics get all angles. If you have the Honda clone CT 50 which is the most common used in the buggies, I may have the parts to repair and if not can get them. However there are some of the cheaper buggies which have the Chinese 50cc engine. If you provide good pics I can tell you what you have. TOM

Tom,
It has only a centrifugal clutch and no rev. The motor looks like a Honda GXH50. It has a short tappered shaft on the output side. If this is not enough info maybe I can get someone to help me send you some picture's. Thanks Rusty |
I will look into it on Monday, if I have any problems than I will have you send some pics. Do you know the HP rating by chance? What was the main problem with the engine? TOM

Mountaineer RTV 50
Tom,
The main problem with the motor is that the head on the exhaust valve came off. The piston and the cylinder wall look good but it beat the vale seat up. Sense the head is part of the block it is going to be hard to repair it. Also it is missing the flywheel / rope start assy. Thanks for your help Rusty |
