Crossfire 150 restoration
 

Ok, looking for help with restoring my 2007 Tomberlin Crossfire 150. This thing sat in my families barn for 4 years because of electrical issues, and we weren't willing to buy the parts. I am now taking over and trying to get it back into running shape. I believe the trouble is only electrical, but being i haven't gotten the electrical working yet, i do not know if there are any mechanical issues. I have replaced the ignition coil, CDI, cleaned the carburetor, drained and replaced the gas, changed the oil, and am getting a new battery. I connected it to an atv battery, actually hardwired the ignition, because it had fallen apart, and nothing happened. My conclusion is that either there is a break in the electrical connections or one of the electrical components is bad. I'm most definitely not an expert though. My only advantage is that I'm mechanically inclined. Any advice on how to troubleshoot/ test the electrical systems? Thanks,

check your solenoid to see if one side is hot. [when right one side will be hot all the time] then check the other side with someone holding the key in the start position to see if you are at least getting fire that far. if checking with meter it should 12 volts or more.

Not sure what you mean by hard wired the ignition. Weather using a keyed ign switch or toggles there are 3 functions. Off, on which provides power to the CDI, then start which puts power to the starter via the relay. There is a fuse in the electrical box which if blown will cut power to both ign and start positions. You need to get your volt meter to see where you have and don't have the 12 volts.

ok, thanks for the advice guys. I have a new question for you. The CrossFire now starts, as in the engine turns over, runs for a few seconds and dies. What is the most likely cause of this, and how should i approach fixing it? Thanks

You need to trouble shoot if your loosing spark or fuel.

get yourself a can of carb cleaner, not starting fluid and try this. carb. cleaner I say because carb. cleaner will not hurt air cooled engine like this. remove air filter and have someone to crank engine, stand to the side of the engine and when it starts to die down spray a burst or 2 into carb. and see if it will still keep running by spraying it with carb cleaner remember this stuff is very flammable so do not stand straight in line with the carb. its not as flammable as starting fluid is another good reason to use it. any questions please ask before trying.

if it keeps running by doing this you have a fuel problem, ie. not getting gas to carb.

I would just get rid of the keys and replace it with an on/off water tight toggle and a momentary toggle also water tight. Jegs or summit have then about $14.00 each.

Well, i want to still have key, I'm just wandering if the ebay item would work just as well?

Sure it should work if you have a 3 wire switch already.

I can understand some folks wanting a key switch because of little ones being around. they learn quick. Also I always liked a key switch to keep even grown ups from cranking something I didn't want them touching. lol

Wow, been a while, but I finally have my crossfire 150 running. Looking to replace the front tires now, and I looks like the Kenda K530 20x7x8 fit well. Is this true? They are significantly less expensive then the OEM tires.
