Tomberlin crossfire 150 anyone interested?

I have my eye on a cart I may be buying if I can get in touch with the guy and get more pics of it. The cart I may be selling is the one in my avatar. It does not have the reverse but it does have the disk brakes on the front and rear axle. They work great. It runs and drives great, and it is totally stock. If I find out he still has it, this would have to be a quick sale, because I don't want to sell this one and lose the other one. The only thing wrong with this one is the air filter holder broke at the rear bolt the other day, and prob. could use a new air filter. Tires on it are at least 3/4 new tread. Holds air great. Selling price is prob. going to be around $600. Let me know if you are interested. I will put more details about it, on here when I find out for sure I am going to sell it. As far as the wild paint job,it was like that when I bought it. Does not affect the riding or running part in any way. LOL thanks Pete

u sure you want to swap out of that for a strut buggy? I can see the $s gain for you in the flip, but out of all the 150 buggies the crossfire and dune still rank pretty high on my "good design" list when it comes to the front suspension.

Are the struts that inferior? I have been pretty happy with my carbide's suspension.

x-bird 08-25-2013 02:25 PM

I wouldn't say so much inferior, but less "adaptable" to different shocks/ride height changes, typically less suspension travel and usually a little harder to find parts for. In some instances they are better--my wife's reaction, while dual a-arm, is going to be a royal pain to deal with if i ever want to up the ride height, increase travel and change out the shocks. gotta chop up the front frame to make any changes on that one.

No xbird I really dont want to swap out of this, I love the crossfire over the helix, because it has so much more leg room. I like the Helix because it has reverse and its faster.

zman007007 08-25-2013 06:48 PM

But then again I don't do any trail riding anyway. Its mostly just around the neighborhood here. I'm trying to come up with the money so, I don't have to sell one. I haven't let my wife in on this so I am living dangerously. LOL

This is easier to remedy than buying a different buggy, not to mention, cheaper and less hassle to slip by the wife. Reverse kit, and some engine upgrades would be in my future.

zman007007 08-25-2013 07:37 PM

oh I know I won't slip it by the wife, but its fun trying. lol if nothing else she would notice another one in the yard. she is also the family banker so it blows that. I have a few things I don't need for sale on C/L . As far as putting reverse on the crossfire you would prob. be talking anywhere from $300 to $400 from what I have seen on here.

zman007007 08-25-2013 07:39 PM

Also by the time I put reverse on it and engine upgrades I could buy another buggy cheaper.

zman007007 08-25-2013 07:40 PM

The guy told me yesterday he would take $350 for it.

I can't post the link here, because it will be removed, but BD has a kit for $199, and I'm sure you can find a chinese or used kit on ebay for less.

zman007007 08-26-2013 06:02 PM

even with the kit , don't you still have to install a longer shaft in the transmission?

zman007007 08-26-2013 06:30 PM

ohhhh I saw the kit and shaft is included with this one. I don't think I would be too crazy about no neutral though.

Masteryota 08-26-2013 07:26 PM

Technically, you don't have a neutral as it sits, I don't see why that would be a deal breaker. As long as the CVT disengages properly, there shouldn't be an issue. I saw a few on ebay as well, but it was just the gearboxes and measurements were needed. Unless you knew exactly what you needed, I might avoid those kits.

Okay, that makes sense.

zman007007 08-27-2013 07:09 PM

you are right about the neutral on that kit,Master, guess I was thinking about the neutral on my Helix.

zman007007 09-07-2013 05:56 PM

I never could get back in touch with the idiot on C/L about the other cart, and a few other idiots that have nothing better to do than list stuff and then not answer you back. I am thinking since I do love the old crossfire so much I will try the reverse kit that Master recommended. Has anyone tried one of these yet?

Masteryota 09-07-2013 07:01 PM

I have seen a few members here, and several on another buggy site use that kit, or one very similar. The only issue I heard about was getting the cable adjusted properly, and I think t3beatz had an issue with the bracket spacing. Might want to pm him and see what he has to say. You could always see what kind of deal Tom will give you, and you know he can tell you step by step how to install it.

zman007007 09-07-2013 07:18 PM

I"m sure I could figure out what it needs to make it work, as long as its minor problems.

zman007007 09-20-2013 05:54 PM

I bought another cart so if anyone is interested in this one let me know. if you need more pics let me know also. zman
