No fuel in the line?
 

I was doing some science fair experimentation with my kart today, and I needed to test how far the kart will go at a set speed on different amounts of fuel (not my whole project) and I was doing a test with 150mL of fuel, and it wouldn't start.... It WOULD start with 50 and 100, but not 150... It seems that there is NO fuel in the fuel filter chamber(?) and just vapor. After a few adjustments of the idle screw, it started right up, but still no fuel in the fuel filter chamber (is that what it's called?). WTH. There was fuel in it from the other trials? :dunno:

150ml is not even a pint of fuel since a quart is 950ml. I wouls say there is not enough fuel to flow to the carb.

for your experiment to work, you will need to drain your fuel tank after getting it started. this takes the carb and lines out of the equation. then add a measured amount of fuel into the tank, drive a set measured distance (something easily multiplied out to 5,280 feet), shut it off then drain the tank only and measure what's left to find what you used. at a set speed, it shouldn't change how much is used base on fuel level.

Edit: Just checked this morning and there is fuel in the filter, just took forever for the gravity I guess? The thing is, it WORKED and filled up the lines with only 50 mL of fuel, so I was curious as to why 150 WOULDN'T work... But all is well now. I forgot to mention that at 10:00 this morn. :)

and x-bird, I am just doing this to determine how much gas I should use in my experiments as I don't want to run all "willy nilly" into this and find out that putting (example) 500mL of gas makes the kart run for 45 mins at my set speed. At which point, I will be jumping off a bridge because I am NOT spending 7.5hrs driving in a circle in my back yard at 10mph for all 10 of my trials. :doh:

well 1st of all, I ain't no rocket scientist, but put 50ml in it and check distance,with everything being equal on each run, which it won't be. but say if it goes 5000' on 50ml then it should go 10000' on 100ml, and 15000' on 150ml. DUHHHHHHHHHHHH LOL

It seems that it WOULD do that, but after the 50 and 100mL tests (haven't done 150, 200, and 250 tests yet) that is APPROXIMATELY how it works. Since there are variations in driving conditions, it is SLIGHTLY less than double distance each time... But, yes, zman, under perfect conditions that IS how it works. lol

Faux, are you hooking a syringe to the line or something like that that is "sealed"? for the fuel to flow into the system, it has to be vented.

Haha...I am LMAO.

X and SYC, I have made a "hydrogen generator." It splits water through the process of electrolysis, and I am powering it with a 12v 12ah battery I have. As it generates hydrogen, the gas will be "pumped" into the intake manifold where it will get mixed in with the air and "enrich" my fuel. If my hypothesis proves correct, that this will improve fuel efficiency, than I will be happy, however, if it is proven incorrect, than I am gonna have to say I feel sorry for all the suckers that are pumping out the $$$ for these things...I made one on my own for cheap, but you can spend upwards of 300 bucks for a premade one! Mine makes about .1 liters of hydrogen (and oxygen too) gas per minute. The "HHO Junkies" claim that 1-2liters is enough to double their MPG on their cars, so .1 should have SOME effect on a 150cc engine if this works.
