Felt something scary today while driving

So, I was out driving today, enjoyin' the new mods, when I'm on a trail and I want to back up to get a lot of speed. When I shifted into reverse, it felt like the reverse gear slipped, as in, one of the teeth on the gear is broken. It would go in reverse, but then it would slip, then catch again. I haven't put it in reverse since because I'm afraid I'll break something. What's happening?

uhmm well my carter has done that since the day i bought it. it doesnt seem to do much harm. i would just keep on keepin on! thers not much u can do till its broke. but if its anything like my problem, nothing significant will come of it.

Did you check the reverse cable. It may need to be adjusted if you bought your buggy new I would bet that the cable stretched and when your putting it in reverse its not going all the way in gear. You may need to take up a little of the slack

thats what im thinkin, ill check it later

Likely the reverse cable adjustment HOWEVER...these things are kinda bad about breaking that reverse lever thing that sits on the transmission. In fact, thata was the only problem we ever had with our Carbide. I suspect yours may have crapped out. Get a flashlight and look at the piece that the cables attach to in the back and make sure it isn't cracked.

If it is, the replacement pieces are pretty cheap and are actually made out of metal and shouldn't break.

the bracket is not broken. ill adjust the cable tomorrow

joshstep1 11-20-2009 06:47 PM

Do you mean the metal bracket that holds the gear selector cables on?
