lighting help

i have a kartco 605s with a tecumseh 6.5 pull start, im looking to add some led headlights for some night driving, i ordered a charge stator with two wire coming off, do i need anything else to supply power to the lights? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Always nice to have a backup 12v battery charger (assuming you're using a battery) in case the stator isn't enough or defective... If your lights are high draw, an inline fuse is probably a good idea, but LEDs are pretty low draw in general. I'd suggest eBay for some decent led lights and cheap cheap fuses/wire. A toggle switch is always a good idea, and you can get some nifty little switch covers cheap!

Also, when getting lights and such on eBay, always find an auction (with free shipping of course). I've seen that most auctions seem to end about 40-70% cheaper than the B.I.N options venders give.

The stator should be fine to power lights, but for a more steadfast source, check out getting a cheap little 12v battery In this case, 5ah would probably be plenty, but always better to have more aH storage! :D

welcome Kartco

does your flywheel already have the magnets inside of it?

kartco newb 10-19-2014 01:59 PM

the flywheel is still on and i cant tell, i can see theres a difference in the fins where they are not there in one spot from the outside.....

zman007007 10-19-2014 04:10 PM

the charge stator you bought does it go under the flywheel or where?

kartco newb 10-19-2014 05:25 PM

Yes it goes under the flywheel, its out of a Tecumseh engine, I ended up getting the flywheel from the same guy and same engine that the stator came from. You got me thing that my flywheel didn't have the magnets as it never had a stator only the charge coil for the plug.

zman007007 10-19-2014 05:51 PM

maybe I am wrong but all the stators I have seen before had to have a flywheel with inside magnets, to go along with it to work. maybe your engine is different.

kartco newb 10-19-2014 05:55 PM

No your right!

zman007007 10-20-2014 02:25 PM

ok so do you have one with the magnets in it?

kartco newb 10-20-2014 04:55 PM

My stock one didn't, the guy on eBay who I got the stator from had the matching flywheel that I bought also.

zman007007 10-20-2014 05:11 PM

cool glad you got it too.

zman007007 10-20-2014 05:13 PM

that should be all you need then, the lights will burn as long as the engine is running.

zman007007 10-20-2014 05:15 PM

if you add a battery. then you would be able to use them when you want. Fauxfox pretty much covered everything else.

What about a regulator to control voltage?

kartco newb 10-21-2014 10:09 AM

Do I really need one? From what I understand the lights will just fluctuate with throttle. If thats the case I can live with it, no different than my snow blower.

SYCARMS 10-21-2014 10:22 AM

It will all depend on what the stator will put out as far as voltage. If at any point you are putting 16 or more volts to the lights you will burn the lights out. Just referring to my riding mowers and even the Hammerhead buggies I sell with the LCT (tucumseh) engines, all have rectifier/regulators. I can't say I have ever run across a charging system without a regulator of some sort.

kartco newb 10-21-2014 10:29 AM

I won't know till I get it installed, thanks for the info I will check the output before hooking to the lights.

kartco newb 10-23-2014 06:27 PM

Sycarms you are correct I need a voltage regulator, any suggestions?????

PM'd you...
