New carb and possible upgrades
 

Working on getting my son's buggy back going.
I'm pretty sure it is a Roketa GK-28A-150.

It has been sitting up for 1-2 years and the carb is going to need rebuilt or replaced.
Is it worth stepping up to the 30mm carb, or should I just stay with the stock size? (26mm?) The jets are rusty, I haven't tried to remove them but I'm afraid they may strip.

I have a high output coil, and was looking getting a new iridium spark plug, CDI, and UNI filter. It is all stock now.

Where is the best place to get these?
How do I tell if I have a AC or DC CDI?

A 30mm carb will be too much carb. Get you a can of Berryman carb dip from Wal-Mart or Oreilly's for about 15.00. Disassemble carb removing all rubber seals, put it in the dip and let soak overnight, remove rinse under warm water while scrubbing with a old toothbrush then blow out all orifices with 20-30psi compressed air. The CDI has 2 pigtails going to it. One will have either 3 or 4 wires the other 1 or 2 wires. If it has 2 wires it is AC if 1 wire DC. Give me a call 662-301-1563 and I'll tell you what you will need to get more power out of your buggy without having to buy parts that will not make a difference in performance. It has 1 wire so DC.

I saw several <$25 carbs on ebay.

Are these as good as the OE carb? Not worth buying? Or?????

The carb dip recommended above is ~$20.
I think it may be worth just buying a spare to have on hand.

Also I was able to get the jets out.
It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

form what I know those are pretty much same as stock carbs I found a 26mm one with intake manifold for $27 though I decided to go wit a 26mm oko D slide, now about the oko and pretty much any slide carb from what I had read and heard and I am experiencing at this time is that they are hard to tune, however once tuned their performance is unmatched...

I would just buy a new replacement carb for the $30 bucks.

If your jets are that bad what about all the other small orifices that are brass, differently not worth the headache of cleaning each one out, I second the buy another carb motion. Can save hours of time and carb cleaner lol, Ive tuned lots of slide carbs on atvs n street bikes, but if you clean out carb and set air adjustable all the way down, then start turning it out till it idles right, warms up , then give it a run, see if it bogs, continue tuning screw for desired plug color. Long process but real snappy throttle.
