engine build questions

So, I've (theoretically) put my motor back together after doing a full Dr Pulley CVT upgrade, and BBK, 4V head install. The head came with the suposedly longer timing chain needed(94 link), but it seems too tight (to me). It feels like there is no flex left to install the tensioner (PIC1). Close up of the head (Pic2). And what the hell are these things that came with the head for? (Pic3) I'm wondering if they go into the valve cover bolt holes to keep oil from leaking out,

First off, did you retract the tensioner all the way? My stock chain felt a little tight after installing cam too, but when I installed tensioner it went in fine. Make sure you retract tensioner and hold it in place with the screw driver then once the 2 bolts are secured you can remove screw driver and tensioner will do extend out and apply necessary tension.
I have never seen those plugs in my stock engine. sorry.

Yup, that did it.. Still don't know what the four seals/bushings things are for though. They fit in the top of the valve cover, but its tough to put the bolt through them because of the ridge on the bottom of the bolt.

That is good that cam is done, but weird on those plugs.

I found it!!! Look here. In this picture.

looks like the bolts for the cam cradle, may to reduce vibration.

You're good! engine studs go through the cam cradle, but they're probably so it doesn't puke so much oil out the valve cover. Some of these cheaper 4V heads have been known to be a bit vomity. Sycarms has already done a P&P to this 4V, but when I get some more cash I'm thinking of getting the Taida 4V head. $200 more than this one that I got for $247.00

Thanks hope it all works out for you. Your buggy is gonna be a beast. Did you go BBK too?

wildbob 02-02-2014 03:39 PM

Yup, just a 5cc upgrade though.

2SlickNick 02-02-2014 04:58 PM

That is cool!

Except apparently neither of my tool sets contain a 9mm wrench.. Really?! I admit, I've never needed one until it was time to adjust the valves... Oh well, guess I'll hit the depot on my way home from work tomorrow..

Did you get everything finished? You pretty much have done every available performance upgrade. Hoping to hear to moderate to big improvement compared to stock.

Well.. I ran into a little snag, the store that sold me the 4V head shipped them without the supposedly included long cylinder studs. I've been chasing the store for them since November. Well, I just went and got me some and one set of studs was a wee bit too long and as I was screwing down the valve cover i snapped a bolt. Just waiting on a replacement that should be here today.
