Carbide 150 will not run...

So, first off, I haven't been on this site in FOREVER!! How's everyone doing?! Secondly, I, having a problem with my Carbide and I can't figure out what's wrong, so lets see if anyone has any idea what's wrong here. I can't seem to keep my engine running. It will start for a few seconds if I press and hold the pedal down and keep the RPMs up. However, as soon as I leg go of the pedal, the engine dies. It will not idol. It's almost like something is tightening around the cylinder, but I'm not sure how that's possible unless it's the rings. I've already cleaned the carb spotless. Does anyone have an idea?

Welcome back.

Have you checked the valve clearances yet? I would also check your intake tube for air leaks while you are there.

Hi and welcome back.

Aside from the above,
Sounds like what my wife's baja reaction was doing. normal no gas start I'd get an idle "blip" then nothing. If i kept it floored i'd get a sluggish idle that wouldn't really increase. to keep it running for longer than 5 seconds or so, i had to keep the key in the start position--still wouldn't rev up. i kept flipping through my good carbs and getting the same result. With no other changes and no improvement I dropped the ignition switch out of the panel with the idea of swapping it, thinking the run position had an issue. blew it out first, tried it one more time and it stayed running, revved fine and hasn't given a problem since. just don't grab a hold of it around the terminal ends while it's running and hanging loose. )))) just one more easy thing to try ...

What are the valve clearances?

Masteryota 07-06-2013 10:49 PM

I believe its .004" for both valves.

the pilot jet in the carb could be it! very tiny hole, just get some carb cleaner and a wire brush, but the wire in the brush wont fit through this hole its too tiny

For the pilot jets, I use a single strand of automotive electrical wire, just fits in the hole.

u check ur valves yet? also is ur air screw on the carburator adjusted?

joshstep1 07-09-2013 11:19 PM

I've already checked the valves in the carb. What air screws? Where are they?

motocross3 07-10-2013 08:56 AM

I mean the valves in ur engine! and the air screw that adjusts how much air goes to ur carb, u might need to adjust it, look at ur manuel to see how many screws to adjust it.

Hey just in case anyone was wondering, I did get my carbide back up and running. I gave it to a mechanic at my church and he found the problem after three days. Anyone want go take a guess what it was? It was the torque converter belt! Seriously?!?! Yes. It was. The belt was completely fried. So I replaced that and after months of it not running, I finally got it back up and running. I am happy

Doh!
Nothing better than a running buggy.
