That's your best and least time saving way of doing this. There's too many varibles to quote an exact length on the chain, motor position, counter sprocket tooth count etc.
You can get a close approximation by figuring if a 35 link works on a 32 count sprocket, your adding 7 more teeth then 7 more links. I order 530 superbike chains off e-bay with a 130 link count. I get 3 chains out of one length so the cost per length is minimal. Their superior in quality compared to industrial chain. Much stronger, less prone to stretch and won't wear the sprocket teeth down. A chain breaker and one master link is all you need to make a custom chain.
