No power after i replaced the clutch and variator

Hello, any suggestions would be very helpful, Its a crossfire 150r before i replaced the clutch and variator it would take a few minutes to start rolling then it ran ok no power going up a slight grade, Now it wont hardly move at all, but it will run in reverse just fine.

zman007007 08-24-2014 08:10 PM

welcome coppertop, sounds like your clutch is not closing like its supposed to, to tighten up on the belt to make it pull.

zman007007 08-24-2014 08:12 PM

you need to put it on stands and see if its working properly when you accelerate

coppertop 08-24-2014 08:20 PM

Thanks for the reply Zman, i will get it up in the air tomorrow and see whats going on.
Thank you.

zman007007 08-24-2014 08:29 PM

you are welcome

zman007007 08-24-2014 08:41 PM

sounds like your belt may be stretched or worn out.

Miamieddie 08-26-2014 04:39 AM

Also try adjusting your foreword shift cable.

coppertop 08-31-2014 09:40 AM

Sorry its took so long to get back to this but work has been brutal, Anyway i took the cover off and saw that the pulley was not moving at all it looks like the belt is to tight.
Isn't there supposed to be some slop on the belt?

zman007007 08-31-2014 11:01 AM

yes there should be a little slack in the belt, enough for the pulley to turn without catching it, when idling.

coppertop 08-31-2014 11:57 AM

ok, with the tires off the ground it does fine as soon as i put it on the ground it barely moves, so i got off it and pushed to a down grade and it gets moving kinda ok. it doesn't seem like its shifting like it used to.

Did you replace the weights with sliders? are they in correctly? Did you replace clutch springs?

coppertop 08-31-2014 12:38 PM

its all new. and the weights are rollers, the kit came from Powersports

coppertop 08-31-2014 12:40 PM

I don't think i'm getting enough rpm's to engage the clutch, any idea's.

zman007007 08-31-2014 12:40 PM

sounds as though you may have something broke inside your front variator. probably need to jump the belt and take it apart to see.

Huh.... And it all worked before this?

coppertop 08-31-2014 12:45 PM

yes, But never had any real power, the bell housing was blue so i replaced all of it.

zman007007 08-31-2014 12:46 PM

is the belt new also?

zman007007 08-31-2014 12:48 PM

do you mean it doesn't sound like its revving wide open?

2SlickNick 08-31-2014 01:01 PM

maybe you could post a vid of it running....
any carb work ever done?

coppertop 08-31-2014 01:02 PM

Yes. And the belt is new. When i had it off the ground and held it wide open the pulley was moving in and out just fine but when it has a load on it the pulley doens't move

coppertop 08-31-2014 01:05 PM

No carb work done, This thing sat outdoors for years so im trying to bring it back to life.

2SlickNick 08-31-2014 01:13 PM

Sounds like your valves need to be adjusted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0K-ytyjOFg

adjust intake to 0.003 and exhaust 0.005

zman007007 08-31-2014 01:18 PM

when you said the bell housing was blue, did you mean like it was burned from heat?

coppertop 08-31-2014 01:23 PM

Thanks for the vid, I will give it a try.

coppertop 08-31-2014 01:25 PM

Yes, zman

zman007007 08-31-2014 01:33 PM

is there a bearing located in that housing where it looked burnt. If so it may be locking up. back behind the clutch that is, on the engine.

coppertop 08-31-2014 01:42 PM

i'm not sure, i will check that. This thing is driving me crazy.

zman007007 08-31-2014 01:44 PM

if it is so that would help explain why there was no power before and still none.

zman007007 08-31-2014 01:44 PM

I mean what else would cause the bell housing to turn blue?

coppertop 08-31-2014 03:00 PM

done a little adjusting on the carb and got it running a little bit better, it will go up an incline now but not very fast, before i put the new stuff on, it would down shift going up hill and shift up after it leveled out, now its not shifting very much.

zman007007 08-31-2014 03:05 PM

what do you mean by shifting. I have a cart like this and there is no shifting up or down

coppertop 08-31-2014 03:16 PM

well it feels like its shifting, i'm new to these things so maybe this could be the problem.
it jerks somewhat when going uphill like its down shifting then when you get on level ground it jerks and picks up speed like its up shifting

zman007007 08-31-2014 03:26 PM

sounds like something is binding or sticking. ie. bearing ?

coppertop 08-31-2014 03:37 PM

ok, thanks for all you input, pouring rain her now so i will start digging into it tomorrow.
Thanks again!!

zman007007 08-31-2014 04:15 PM

cool lets us know

Miamieddie 09-01-2014 09:25 AM

Check your clutch. You nay have a broken arm spring. Out of the 3.

coppertop 09-07-2014 09:57 PM

Ok i got this thing running good now, I took everyones advice and wanted to say thank you for all the help. here is what i done, new plug, cleaned the carb, adjusted the valves, and a redneck intake. I think the valves was the biggest problem. Thanks again.

Mudpuppy 06-03-2017 04:10 PM

I have 150 cc 7150 it runs fine no problems in till u start on anincline and then it just has no movement run great on flat ground but will not pull up an incline. Could.i get some help please

SYCARMS 06-04-2017 01:09 PM

Have you checked the cvt for weak or broken springs, worn rollers or worn clutch pads? Also what kind of hills are to climbing, where are you located?
