baja dune 150 start issue

I have a Baja dune 150 that I'm having trouble getting it started. I've had it running fine have a new carb on it. Had it running and drove it around the block came back and it died while it was running. No it will not roll over. The spark plug sparks just the motor will not start. Looking to see if I can get any help and get it up and running for desert season coming up.

If it's getting spark then you should check that it is getting fuel. May I ask why you put a new carb on it? Could it have had a fuel delivery problem prior to the carb replacement that hasn't been taken care of yet?

There was no fuel getting through the carb, put the new carb on and it started right up, I've tried to spray ether to get it to start and still don't get it to roll over

Maybe it's not a strong enough spark?

slicksteveo13 10-02-2012 11:47 AM

How could I check that?

woody89 10-02-2012 11:58 AM

I am no expert on this.... If it is just a blue colored spark I believe that it would be considered weak. I think you should see some "orange/white" in the spark. Someone else that knows more, please verify and/or add to this info....

OK I'll see what I can find, now would the issue be the spark plug or something further? Was going to try a new spark plug too

It could be that the plug could be fouled. The color of the plug itself may indicate this. Or it could be the coil and wire are going bad. I would suggest getting a new plug since they are relatively cheap and give that a shot. If it turns out to be that... Definitely check the color of the plug you took out. It may just be that you need to adjust your air/fuel mixture.

I'll pull the plug and check it as well as post a picture here which might help

That would be helpful. Hopefully some more knowledgeable posters will chime in on this one to help you.

valve check?

if ur getting good spark n fuel supply u might want to check your valve gaps to make sure they are opening n closing proper:dunno:

slicksteveo13 10-02-2012 10:27 PM

So it looks to be something else now went to go play around with it and its not getting any spark, tested the plug wire and its not getting any power now....

So u thinking maybe stator?

I have no clue what to test, don't know if its that or the cdi

bear 10-03-2012 11:28 AM

You should start with the stator see if ur getting juice from there and then move forward thru your electrical system in a series paralell patern

slicksteveo13 10-03-2012 11:36 AM

OK so see if there is any power coming from the stator while trying to start it or just with the key on?

bear 10-03-2012 11:40 AM

test it while engine is turning over

slicksteveo13 10-03-2012 11:41 AM

OK will test later and report back

Check that the spade connection is good on the back of the coil. A good spark will be blue in color.
