1. Measure battery voltage with engine off: 12VDC or more
2. Start engine and remeasure voltage: More than step 1, but less than 15VDC
3. Measure stator voltage while engine is running: More than 12VAC
If #1 fails, charge the battery with an external charger and then let it sit overnight off the charger and measure again. If the voltage drops, the battery is bad.
If #2 fails, first check your main fuse with a meter. Visually checking the fuse can sometimes fool you.
If the fuse is fine, check #3. If #3 is OK and fuse is fine, the rectifier failed.
If #3 fails, disconnect the stator from the rectifier while the engine is running. If the voltage is now good, the rectifier is bad. If the voltage is still bad, the stator failed.
