It's probably the extra wire, I had the same exact one. Ran perfect on the motor when I had it on the street kart, put it on the Yerf and had to extend the wire to reach the plug wire, never read right. This was on the same exact motor on the street kart.
Took it off, removed the extra wire and connected it to the plug wire holding the tach in hand, perfect again.
Ended up just saying my son doesn't need a tach on the Yerf. One more thing to distract him from having his eyes on the trail. With the electric start motor it's governed anyway so not worrying about him doing any ridiculous RPM's.
