I use lucas 80/90w gear oil and it takes about 3 oz. I also load the suspension so the trans/engine is almost level. I use a tie down from the engine frame to the rear rack. It is also easier to add gear oil with the cvt cover off. If you don't want to remove the cvt cover use a straw and put it on the gear oil bottle and squeeze it in till it runs out. I also replace the crush washers and put a dab of silicone on the washer to keep it from coming loose. The drain should be at the rear bottom of the gear box. I am assuming your buggy engine is a gy6. Don't over tighten the bolt because I did and striped it out and was lucky to have a old engine case to get the side trans cover off.
