welcome Artic and hello to you too. lol the best way to check the starter is `hold a volt meter on the big post [where the battery cable hooks to it] and see if its getting 12 or a little over 12 volts,while someone turns the key like they are trying to crank it. if it is getting the voltage, the starter may be bad, if not you either have a bad connection , bad battery or a weak battery. sounds like its not getting enough fire to the solenoid check voltage in battery 1st.
