It is my understanding that the internal reverse design, if it were to fail, it can cause catastrophic damage. Having this 'high stress' portion outside of the main case keeps that from happening. I like the looks of the integrated reverse, because I like clean and tidy engine compartments, but as a tech, I also understand the advantage of having the external unit.

I'm sure Tom can answer this better than I, but I am also thinking if the reverse fails on an internal engine, you might not be able to move forward either. Add that in with the gear shifter and more internal moving parts, I would opt for the external unit for your Yerf.
