Add to that, the motor stops making power around 7500 RPM so anything over that is just unnecessary abuse on the engine. This is why a stock CDI limits rpm to around 7800 rpm. Many people think that the rev limit controls top speed. This is not the case it is to preserve the engine. With acception of some ASW buggies they have what is known as a kids cdi which limits speed to only 25mph, but they are the only ones I know that have that and I'm not sure if they even offer that option anymore.
