I too wondered about this. I have recently looked to convert a dunebuggy to 4 wheel drive. With a Polaris Sportsman 600. What scared me the most was the cutting of a frame so that we could put a driveline down the middle of it. The shock and front end redesign was a little worrysome also. As far as the axel width, we thought we would try using some universal wheel spaces that we saw on a jeep. They were 6 inches thick so the guy could put 44 inch tires on it, also they were aluminum so they did not weight that much.

I have given up on my 4-wheel drive buggy for now, but post picture as you go, I would love to see your work.
