You are absolutely correct, it is NOT a decompression device of any sort. But I still have trouble grasping it's ability(strength wise) to arrest the motion of a back fire. That is usually a violent and powerful reaction, even at idle or engine cranking speeds. Now my curiousty is peeked, because I have been blindly disabling them, thinking as before.

Next time I do tear into one, still OEM equipped, I will do just that, I will put it through every scenario I can come up with, to find it's intended, and factual function.

Sorry 'bout all the clamour...my bad.

PS.... what 'ffng fan club? devotees? HUH?
