Well at the very least, it needs to be cleaned up. It is not in the best shape but I have seen worse. A wire wheel will be needed to really clean it up and Comet used to make a dray lubricant just for those pieces. Jumpy happens when the parts can't slide in and out easily. Also, that copper looking piece on your front part should be replaced. Ideally, replace the entire setup however that can be expensive so you can try option two which is clean..clean..and clean.

Need to see the driven unit. Also flip the bell cover from the clutch over and shoot a pic where the pins hit the rim. If it's eating belts I'm betting your driven unit is missing the rubber tips or the spring is weak. Do you have spray dry lube?

more clutch, im thinkin the lower part, with the spring, there are rivets in the center, when the belt gets tight, the pully opens, and the belt gets torn on the rivets, not sure if you can see them in the pix, but thats wats shredding the belts, might the spring have gone bad?

Well your bell/clutch cover is ruined, look at the ovaled out area where it bolts to the crank. This is slipping under load and causing a wobble on your clutch pulley at high speed. Has someone beat on the driven pulleys with a hammer? Also your belt is being shredded on the rivets of the driven.

There is a post for an alternative source for the comet system in older posts- I scanned real quickly and found this link-
http://www.bulletlines.com/ProductDe...ode=52&click=2 Don't know if it's still good though. Nortern tools sells the TAV2 system complete also. If you can afford it I'd start with a fresh system and quit buying belts and broke down all the time!!!!Got to have some dry lube regardless as maintenance is the key to a great running CVT for the long haul.Go kart supply has many diagrams and small parts as well. yes very shiny !! ok, i ran into a problem with using my jack shaft and shaft plate, the new gear does NOT fit the shaft !! its too SMALL, weird, its fits over the threaded part untill the threads stop, and the shaft begins, and thats it. so i modifyed the frame just a tad, lol, just shaved a cross member a lil bit so the new jackshaft housing clears. the new gear came in the box already on this shaft, so i know it fits, lol, just sent it out in the mail to get exchanged for that 10T gear, still wandering if its gunna fit?? the sprocket that came off the kart was a 9T, does any one know whats the ratio on these chaines and gears? Do you think a 10T gear will fit where a 9T gear was??

usually #35 chain, some offer #40. Did the gear come for a 5/8" shaft when you need a 3/4"?

i duno yet, il micromiter it tomarow see what it is. the old bad gear ofcourse fits the new shaft, funny, lol, whats all this about #35 and #40 chain? does that mean the 10T wont fit the chain the 9T runs?

Quote:"Do you think a 10T gear will fit where a 9T gear was??"You're asking if they will interchange aren't you? you have to know the chain size to match sprockets- most jackshaft sprockets come #35 chain. You said:"the new gear does NOT fit the shaft !! its too SMALL, weird, its fits over the threaded part untill the threads stop, and the shaft begins, and thats it".
Nothing wierd about that if you don't have the right size!!!You have to know what size diameter the jackshaft is to know what to order-I'm sure this info is provided as a description when ordering the sprocket . What's the axle/gearbox sprocket chain size? It has to match the jackshaft sprocket chain size. There are numerous sprocket gear ratio charts on the internet (put in gear ratio chart) to find out what your final gear ratio will be. |

yes, will it fit? by what do you mean chain size? the link length? or how many chain links to measure? right, the new gear does not fit the original shaft, its just a hair too small. i used sand paper on the jackshaft, but it dont fit. i ordered the 3/4 bore, the axle is factory manco axle, octigone like stop signe i herd was best, it has it. il get pics of it, i duno the size of the sprocket on axle, il measure that too. i was wanting to use the original chain and axle sprocket. realy didnt want to change all that too, lol
