Default New Hampshire noob

Hi all! Just joined after picking up a sun l 150 that needs quite a bit of love. I was always a dirt bike and atv guy until a friend picked up a carter bros that I help him get running. Looking forward to hitting the woods, and want to thank everyone for the large amount of info I have already soaked up as well as any advice you can give.

Ct. Definitely interested in doing some riding. Most all state trails in the south have a 50" max making most vehicular go further north. They are able to and have to be registered. Up north most public roads are open to atv an utv use. Also I am very much I to camping and there are many atv friendly camp grounds. I have booked a family trip for next 4th of July to go to Pittsburg which is about 12 miles south of Canada.

As for my buggie I will get pics up soon. Right now I am currently only getting spark when I hold the key switch in the crank position, and short the solenoid with a screw driver. I have not had much of an opportunity to do anything other than clean the carb and change the oil.

Berlin is a bit shy about 1 hr maybe less away. However it is also home to Jerhico Lake 7200 acres of awesomeness. I believe all town roads are open there as well except rt 16.

When I hold they key to crank position I get nothing. With the key in the on position i jump the solenoid it will crank but I get no spark. If I hold the key in the crank position and jump the solenoid I get a weak blue spark. I have not run the machine as I would like to figure out this issue first. I am thinking it must be come kind of ground issue.

One wire on your coil will be from the cdi the other should go to ground....kinda sounds like an ignition issue to start. Anyways.....I just rewired myn if you needs a schematic...

Thank you CT. It was definitely a challenge and I learned quite a bit in the last week but she finally fired up tonight. There were a few bumps and bruises along the way. I picked the buggy up and some interesting things were done to say the least. Someone had crossed a couple wires on the cdi, the key switch was crossed up as well. Now that the ignitions issues are set I have to go to work on the lights turn signals and horn as the 4 pin rectifier burned up good due to a short.

The carb was a mess as well. When I removed the float bowl the old fuel looked similar to spray can insulation. After a good soaking and though clean it seems to pass file although it seems the idle may be high as the kart wants to take off as soon as she fires up.

Once I dial that in I have an infinite number of othe tasks to take care of mostly cosmetic.

Oh and I forgot to mention the solenoid was no good however still could be jumped with a screw driver? Idk. Either way the operation seems to be a success.

Boo! I took mine for its first run around the property I get about 15 minutes in and it dies. Starts then dies ten feet later did that a few times may need another carb clean.

Likely pilot jet or your ign switch. try holding the key as you drive and see if it isn't clicking back just far enough to take it out of "run"

Thank you X. I did not think of the ign switch. It could be as it feels like there is a bit of play. It does seem to feel like it is starved for fuel. I will post an update when I get a chance to pull the carb. Unfortunately work has me up against the wall this week...
