Arrow Carburetor parts?

Hello people that know more about engines than I do!

I've been tryin to find some videos on carbs and how they work, and I've got a basic understanding, but I don't think that it's of the carb my kart uses. I do believe the Howhits use a "variable piston" carb (idk anything?). I know that the carb acts as a diaphragm of sorts to mix the fuel/air, but how is it dis/re assembled and tuned?

And can I get some Vocab words explained/defined please?

Float
Needle (isnt it a part of the float?)
Main jet
Pilot jet
Jet
Air fuel screws

Thanks everyone! Educating a Ryan today will bring me one step closer to ruling the world under my dictatorshi-

I mean.... Thanks. I appreciate the help and will use it to work on my go kart.

This was one of the 1st vids I used for cleaning my carb. If you can bare through the kid explaining it, it is rather very helpful. I subscribed to his vids because he has a lot of D.I.Y. vids.

That is your air fuel screw. Sometimes it might have a plug covering it, but you can either drill a tiny hole in the plug, then screw a screw in the plug and pop it out. Or just use a self tapping screw and pop it out. Very easy.

Thanks Masteryota, and Nick, you got some good info, too! If anyone could give me some basic understanding of those words I asked, that would be great!

Here is a link with a a picture and explanation of the different circuits and how they work.
The cv carb is the third down.

http://www.bikerenews.com/Stories_Ar...rburetors.html

They are calling the pilot jet the slow jet, and calling the air/fuel screw the idle mixture screw.
Most people think the air/fuel screw only lets in fuel, but as you can see it lets in a mixture of air and fuel.

This one explains the parts you asked about.

Re-jet= Removing old main/pilot jets, and installing new ones, normally bigger for an air filter upgrade. The bigger the jet, the more fuel it lets into the engine. Keeping a steady 14.7:1 air to fuel mix is very important for both the running condition and the longevity of said engine. Running lean destroys pistons, and running rich will foul plugs and cause excessive carbon on everything.

Most of these carbs have screw in jets. Look at some vids on youtube about jetting scooter carbs, they are similar, if not the same. Once you remove the jet, you will need to match it to another jet to be able to source the part. You may need to measure with a metric micrometer to get the dimensions correct, and the jet 'size', or hole diameter should be stamped into the side of the jet itself.

Thanks yota, thats what I thought, but I wanted to be sure. So adding on a UNI will give it more air flow, and therefore it will run leaner?

I'm probly not gonna mess with this for quite a while (assuming until I get the front end in good shape) but the previous owner gave me a NIB carb with the kart, so I can maybe tinker with that a little...

Just took out the carb and began to tinker...

One, how easy/hard should it be to push the piston/needle up and down in the carb if I stick my finger through the manifold side? I can't seem to make it budge...?

I found this thing with a cord hanging off, is it the auto choke cuz idk. my guess is either autochoke, cdi, or something like it? It's got a needle at the end, and a 3 prong connector.

Another edit: toying some more and I've gotten the piston thing to move. There was some dirt/dust caked in. Turns out, this carb is NOT new, and the place that replaced the carb for the previous owner (back in 2006, it came with a receipt) they just put the old carb in te box and put on a new one. Oh well. A carb is a carb

ANOTHER EDIT: Found out its the autochoke

Tinkered some more, and IDK what this stuff is...

Showing my orientation of the carb

Showing how I rotated it

Where I am now. Are these the jets, if so, which ones are which?

Edit. After looking at my diagram I think that the deep one in the middle is the main jet, but what are the other two?

In your picture, starting from the top and working down. The first brass opening is where the enrichener (choke) gets its fuel from. The next one (recessed) is the pilot jet. Next is the main jet. Below that is the fuel inlet, where the fuel enters the float bowl.

Interesting, so whats the difference between main and pilot jets? Is the main jet the only one that "goes" at idle?
