kudo's to JD for taking on this sponsorship!
I got a couple of big "If's" in order to participate
IF.. I can do the trip in 8 to 10 hrs max, it can be doable. Any longer travel time won't fit in my time frame.
IF.. My buggies can qualify? They are the gy6 platform with displacements less than 160cc but other than that, nothing stock about chassis or motor. The last series I participating in had a "Pro-Mod" class I fitted in.
If these requirements can be met, Count me in!!!
On a side note... For those of you that may have never participated in a organized event such as this you will discover it is the most fun and excitement you will ever get out of your buggy! If you thought just messing with buggies was addictive............ Try this, it's a whole new level!!!!

click on the FB link all the rules are posted, would love to have you out there and finally meet. if you give the page a like or friend me you'll be in the loop. talking to the promoter, jason, he is working on trying to get a group rate for racers at the hotels on the I-75 exit and i will have camping details sometime this week. as far as i know the bug qualifies i was pretty open with the rules. you can also call me during shop hours 3-8 weekdays and 8-3 weekends for any questions too.

here's the rules..............

150cc BUGGY CLASS RACE RULES
This is a first attempt so if/in the future there might be changes based on learning from this 1st event. The ultimate goal here is to have competitive fun and bring people in our hobby/sport together and hopefully open a door to organize an outlet for this somewhat underground form of powersports to be able to have more similar events like this!
RULES:
AGE LIMIT- As of right now the age limit for this class is 16 and up. Anyone competing under the age of 18 will need to have parents/legal guardians present and signed consent. Anyone is more than welcome if they have children who want to race and are under the age of 16, our solution for this event is they will be placed to race in the kids UTV class.

SAFETY - ALL buggies will need to be equipped w/no less than a 4pt stock safety harness. Older shoulder over/lap belt systems on some older units are not acceptable, they must be swapped out for a more current (at least) 4pt system. Aftermarket 4pt/5pt harness systems are allowed and welcomed.
DOT approved helmets are a must!!!!! as well as eye protection (no sun glasses) and gloves.

ENGINE - Engines must be GY6. Any bolt-on mods to the engine are allowed, this includes 155cc BBK, coil/CDI, carb, intake, cam, and exhaust. The 155cc limit is to keep the class even and affordable ......MACHINED ENGINE RULE - in order to allow everyone who wants to participate we will allow machined motors(over 155cc) w/ restrictions. Any motor that has a BBK bigger than 155cc will have to use stock carb (proper jetting allowed) , stock exhaust(untouched, no gutting) and a factory airbox. if you are planning on bringing a buggy with a machined motor please contact JD Plakiotis or JD's Custom Buggies inc. ahead of time.

CHASSIS- chassis has to be a 150cc GY6 based factory buggy.
Beyond that ANYTHING GOES. shocks , tires/wheels, cage, ETC.....Any/All mods allowed.

ALL MACHINES MUST HAVE # PLATES

ABOVE ALL ELSE !!!!!
BRING A GOOD, FUN LOVING, HEALTHY ATTITUDE!!!!!
WE EXPECT THERE TO BE A MIX OF EXPERIENCED, UNEXPERIENCED, YOUNGER AND OLDER RACERS IN THIS CLASS AND WE WANT THIS TO BE A GREAT EXPERIENCE FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED. WE WANT YOU TO RACE HARD, AND WE WANT YOU TO RACE CLOSE BUT WE DO NOT WANT YOU TO RACE STUPID!!!!!!!
IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THE DEFINITION OF RACING STUPID CONTACT JD Plakiotis TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS.
FUN AND SAFETY IS PRIORITY!!!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!

have some more info.
saturday practice
sunday race

cost to spectate $10
cost to show up and ride $10 a person $10 a machine =$20
cost to show up and race on sunday $10 a person + $25 to race register =$35
raffle tickets will be sold for great gear and prizes
beings how i am running and sponsoring the buggy class i am currently talking to vendors to donate race prizes, still working on that so i won't announce til everything is rock solid but to hint for an example a free FLY racing gear setup is being given ,for the raffle drawing, from my shop.
the park and hosts are having trophies made up but for buggy people that show i am trying to sweeten the pot and make it special.
feel free to ask questions if this is a possibility. i will be putting up for info as i get it. will be out of town this week to ride.............RIDE ROYAL BLUE here i come!

the race was a success!!!!!
and i must say it was the most fun i think i have ever had in my buggy.
the next day my phone rang off the hook from all the guys who were in it asking when the next one was. the promoter called 2 days later to ask if we would be in for 4 more from nov to feb that was in the planning stage. of coarse i could tell him with confidence that everyone was in. there was no showing of youth utvs so the youth utv/buggy race turned into a youth buggy race, which turned out to be a really good show.
i would definitely encourage anyone in florida or the southeast for that matter who has a buggy to get in touch with me to come out and give this a whirl. ive discussed with the event organizer about adding a midsized class and an open class up from 155+ to 300cc and he is interested as long as i can ahve a showing of 6 in each class. we had a field of 8 and i believe we might be up to 15 potentially for the next race. i will keep posting updates on this thread. here are some pics and FB links to vids. i will eventually get them on youtube and repost those links.

Awesome JD!

Got me thinking about how I might find a manager and take the time for a road trip from PA to FL to make a race with me and my daughter. in the Nov.-Feb time frame. M-I-L lives in Venice, you anywhere near there and any campgrounds in the area?

yeah my shop is 10-20 minutes south of venice.
the park where this event was is about an hour south of there via i75. as soon as i get details on the schedule i can fill in more as far as accommodations that may make things more convenient.

I can't express how much I was glad to find this event being such a success. I'm sure every one who attended had a great time. A competitive environment creates a wonderful connection among the participants and also to include their machines. It's a atmosphere that is hard to describe but is definitely noticeable. There really is no better way to enjoy the buggy scene.
Hats off to you JD for taking on this endeavor and kudo's to those who gave support through participation or " behind the scene" involvement to make it work. Toot your horns loud and clear so that other ATV parks and promotors will take notice and consider offering such events.
Time restraints prevented me from attending , what I hope is just a "inarguable event". In the future. with some planning I WILL make it happen.
Pease post any news and a possible future schedule of events.
JD, I would like to hear your personal take on this. what worked , what didn't. What could participants and organizers do to improve a future event.

well off the bat it went as well as it could have for a 1st event. right now the guy who planned the show is working on a 4 race "series" type deal over 4 months, nov- feb. no date or venues yet so it might all be at one or move around a bit. i have also gotten in contact w/ a track owner about 3hrs north of me to possibly include us in his local race weekends in the near future and he seems very interested. the key and the challenge is to get the #'s up. for me to sell this to a track w/ out Jason (the promoter of the 1st event) i need to guarantee racers fir this to be taken seriously. racers mean friends , family who pay gate $ and buy hot dogs if you catch my drift. this means for me that i am on a tight rope w/out a net. this is pressure i wouldnt have at "jasons" event. for me to put down a hard date in my mind i need at least 10 racers to make the 1st good impression. Hurricane Irma killed me for 2 weeks between getting ready, no power and internet so now i have to try and make up for it and gain some momentum back.

due to circumstances + a hurricane which set everyone back the tentative dates have been moved from nov-feb to jan thru april. planning is going on right for dates and places. i have also made contacted with one local track owner in ocala who is interested in adding the buggies to his local weekend shows. i'll keep everyone posted as i get info.

That is kind of a bummer but will give will also give more time to get ready. I like the sound of getting something going in ocala.

that actually re-opens the window for me to potentially make a family trip down. logistics are still near impossible because of changes to the biz that will occurr with the new year, but i may be able to make the trip.
