Default Carter Talon - is it running right?

I took my resurrected 150cc Talon for its first run. On relatively flat land it accelerates well and has a top speed of about 30mph + (no speedometer but my estimate). Anyway it is way too fast for rough terrain at top speed. It climbs steep slopes IF you are up to a moderate speed when you hit the slope. However, if I stop on a steep slope and try to go, the Talon lacks enough power to go forward. I have to back down the slope to more level ground and get a running start to go up the slope. Is this normal? I suspect the 150cc engine with CVT lacks the torque to go up a steep slope from a dead stop. Am I correct or does my Talon need more work? Since this is my first buggy, I need your help to evaluate what is normal performance. PS: The run described here was with a 300 pound load (me + a 12 year old).

Sounds about right for a bone stock 150, some CVT mods will improve the engagement and allow it to be in its power band at a lower speed, but at the cost of top end speed. Most guys start with opening the intake with a UNI filter, open the exhaust up, rejet and some lighter slider weights, and report back it feels like a whole different machine.
