CDI wiring help!
Hello, I have a Helix 150cc buggy made by Fox I believe. The previous person to work on this tore out the wires from the actual connector instead of disconnecting it... Now I have a mess of 6 wires that come out of 2 different harnesses that obviously go into the CDI but I have no clue which wires go to which Pin-out. I have the Pin out diagram which is labelled 1 through 6. and the wires I have go as follows:
On the group of wires that plug into the 4 probe connector there is Black Black/Yellow Green Blue/White And on the one with the 2 probe connector I have Blue/White Green and a kill switch that comes off the cover with no possibility of knowing what wire mates with that.. So far I have it turning over but its obviously not getting spark. Any of you wiring experts on these little devils care to give me a hand? (:

Someone on here will be able to help, I am unsure as I am not familiar with this buggy and there are so many different variations and wiring possibilities. One piece of advice I can share is don't try starting it until you know you are wired up right. You could end up ruining a perfectly good CDI. If it isn't ruined already.

Go here to see where the wires to the CDI go. Look at the wires coming out of your stator. Two wires from the stator go to the CDI - usually red/black is power and blue/white is the signal for the CDI to fire. A yellow/black wire usually runs from the CDI to the coil to power it to fire. You can determine which wire is ground for the CDI - usually green but may be black too. You can determine which wire is ground by using an ohm meter. Also use the ohm meter to determine which wire goes to the kill switch. You can look at the kill switch to see the colors of the wires connected to it and test continuity back to the cdi to identify the kill wire to the CDI. I just went thru a similar problem on the ignition switch on a Carter Talon. Just be patient, trace to where the wires go and use the plug diagram to make sure the wires go to the correct CDI lugs. You can do this....

On my cdi on the 4 lug side.... blue/y goes to stator. Black/ yellow goesto ignition coil. Green is ground. No fourth wire on mine.. on the 2 lug side. Blak/red goes to stator. And black/white goes to stop switch and ignition switch.

hey Nick I told you in a private message that my Helix is a dc system but it only has one wire going to the 2 pin plug on the cdi, but if yours has 2 it may be a ac system.

Ok great, I think I'm making pretty good progress with the wiring. My next question, is there a solid way to identify if the actual CDI that I have is a DC any sort of pinout tests or ohms readings I can take? The last person to work on it literally blew up a CDI...

Okay, So I'm 90% sure I have a DC system. and I'm sure I have the wiring correct.
1 - Blue/White Ignition Trigger..... 2 - Black/Yellow Ignition Coil /// 5 - Nothing 3 - Green Ground 4 - Nothing Ground /// 6 - Black/White 12v But I am still not getting spark or power to the Ignition Cables. My Black/White has 12volt constant power feed. and when it is cranking over my stator puts out about .5 volt at the blue/white trigger and I'm pretty sure 9 volts to the voltage regulator (when turning over. Does this sound right? I cannot find anywhere that says what kind of voltage I should be getting at crank.

nick you need to read the thread I put on here about my Helix when I first bought it and you will see what I learned and went thru to get it going. hope it helps you. its the thread where I paid $300 for it. zman

you may have another blown cdi on ur cart. I put one on mine, just turned engine over trying to crank it and then rebuilt the top end and somehow it blew. do you have any fire going to the coil where your spark plug wire plugs in, when turning it over? if not your cdi is prob. blown. thats the way mine was. mine was a brand new performance cdi and coil. I put a stock one on and left the perf coil on it and it fired right up.
