Default New Battery

My kart did not have a battery when I bought it so I am looking for one. The engine manual recommends using a 12V-24AH or larger. The kart manual/parts list does not show the battery specifications so I am not sure what Manco recommends. The mounting location is quite small. I have checked Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and National Tire & Battery and no one has a 24AH battery in the size I need.

I know a little bit about batteries but not sure why the engine manual wants a 24AH battery. Most batteries that would fit on my kart only have a 3-6 AH rating. The motor has electric start and I am going to add a pair of 35 watt headlights (same wattage that came with the kart, according to the parts list).

Can someone explain why my engine wants a 24AH battery?

Manco Phantom Fox 720L model with 10HP Robin engine.

Thanks

i agree, there's a misprint there somewhere. i run a 16a/hr and mine came with a 12a/hr. it's a 250cc.
regarding your lights, the bigger battery will last longer with running higher wattage lights but it's the stator that will be giving the juice. you may want to find out how many poles are on your stator so you don't draw too much with big lights.

Thanks for the replies. I agree, there must be a misprint about the battery rating. I found a couple of options at Wal-Mart that will fit the space, so I will get the highest rated one I can.

As far as the number of poles on my stator, I am not sure about that yet. I will check on it when I tear the engine apart for cleaning. I would think sticking with the stock 35 watt lights would be fine. We don't ride at night so the lights would be more for just in case.

If you know your model number you can get a PDF parts list from here.

http://www.amsportworks.com/ipls.php?cat=gokarts

Use that list to find the parts you need then order them from here.

That is what I did to get my last two Manco’s running. The Dingo Deuce I had also needed a new gear in the transaxle to get the reverse to work again. The gear was worn down from people trying to throw it into reverse while the kart was still moving.

Depends on the gear you need. You have to identify it from the parts list like the one below.
