Default 150cc wont stay running unless fully throttled

i have a carter talon with a gy6 150cc. it has been sitting for about 3 years. i cleaned the carb i got new plug and coil an solenoid and replaced gas line hoses. i can get it started by spraying gas in the carb an it will only stay running if the throttle is all the way open......i think the head gasket may be bad dont really kno yet ..could that cause this?? or what could cause it?? thanks

Welcome- I know you said you cleaned the carb! Could you see daylight when looking through the jets? Did you put compressed air through all the orfices? the carb is usually the culprit. Do you have oil, carbon or anything else unusual looking at the head gasket area? Doubt the head gasket is the problem if it'll run pretty good by just spraying gas in the carb @ WOT.

Items to check next-
Check for an intake leak or vacuum line leaks
Test the FEV (fuel enrichment valve)
Verify good gas flow from the tank
There are several other things it could be.

The FEV isn't working- it's the black plastic electronic part on your carb. It controls cold start by having a needle that moves from one orfices to another to allow a richer fuel flow without a vacuum source when cold. 2 screws hold the collar on the FEV- sounds like you need to order a new one- Something to think about- new carb with a new FEV is about $35. a FEV alone is about $20.

A weak battery or poor connection for the solenoid to just click- for it to just die could be many other things though.

It's not the battery I charged it the day before an one of the wires were so hot I couldn't even touch it.
