Talking Dash project

Now that I'm done with my motor build, it's time to redo my stock dash. I've bought a Empi 9" aluminum dash panel that I'm gonna drill holes for my ignition and switches. Gone will be the rocker for the lights, replaced with a on-off-on waterproof toggle. Trailtech vapor mounted on the top as well as a voltmeter. I've bought a couple bags of the various connectors I'll need to wire it, so everything will be quick-connect.

Busy and whatnot, but here's how the dash is coming along. So far keeping it simple with momentary kill switch, HD on-off-on lights toggle, and ignition. Vapor and voltmeter will be mounted on top.

Love to see where this goes as my plastic dash secured with jb weld and zip ties (not so good) is falling apart just from me moving about the kart and working on different areas, so I think I"ll eventually follow in ur footsteps with this!
zman, trailtech vapor is a speedometer/odometer/meter of other things. Trailtech makes a buncha stuff like that. I don't know the exact details, but I know it's high-quality!

Yeah, let's you set over temp warning lights, temp monitoring, tach, speedo, etc. I bought a mount for mine that has all the signal indicators and warning lights and will bolt it to the top of the dash. I was thinking of doing a voltmeter too, but now I'm thinking I might just go without.

The trailtech incorporates all of those functions into one handy device. If you take a look at their site, they have different models that do different things. Personally, I am looking for one with the correct functions and sensors for the Yerf. X-bird got lucky and scored one for cheap with all the goodies. Being a gear head, I want to know as much about the engine as possible at a glance, this unit can show head temp, RPM, run time, speed, and a whole host of other parameters.

The correct Trailteck vapor unit for a yerf or for any gy6 150 motor would be #752-201. The display units are all the same with the same features with the exception of the GPS models. The difference in the part numbers are the type of sending units supplied with the kit. #752-201 has the correct size temp sender that fits the gy6 sparkplug. The speed sensor in this particular kit is the same for most all the units and adapts to the buggy very well. The rest of the sensors are simply wired in at the appropriate locations on the motor.

FWIW so far all is still GTG with mine. Ran in temps all the way down in the 20s over the winter on internal battery power only. Hooked up the temp sensor today as a matter of fact. My "deal" got me a too small temp ring terminal. spoke with TT and they said splicing wouldn't be a problem nor was running it off a head bolt. ... once up and running, Wildbob's next question will be " is this a safe max temp for my engine!" ;~) just did that myself. LOL

So what kind of temp reading are you showing x-bird? What is your average temp once up and running? High temp?

I would like to know what kind of temps others with the gy6 are getting with their trailtechs. Mine seems to run kind of high. 280 once warmed up and just idling. 350-370 at times at WOT.

That's about normal. You will see spikes of 375+ at times.

Got 100' rolls of 15mm, 20mm, and 30mm shrink tube. I'm going to pull all my sensor (temp/spark) through it and seal them up.

Dash is installed, sensors hooked up and working, still need to put the idiot lights in the vapor housing, but so far so good. Put grommets in the the dash so wires don't get damaged, this buggy is almost ready to hit the trails..

Well, the vapor is made for atv/dirtbike use, so it should be ok.. all the wire runs are rubber grommeted, so no wires getting scuffed or cut there. Hopefully it'll be okay. only one way to find out!!

Amen to that one! LOL! Position that screen directly in front of you and as close to your face as possible. you won't have time to search and study the screen while picking a line on the trail. I set the indicator lights to flash for high temp and high RPM. Those are the only things I'm concerned about while running. The lights can be seen out of the corner of your eye. The rest of the info can be recalled while stopped. The screen gets dusty very quickly and sun glare makes it almost impossible to read at times. Some sort of hood or shroud helps a lot.
