Does anyone know the type and size of nut used to hold the hub to the rear axle? I.e. is it SAE or metric and size and thread pitch? I need one castle nut for our spiderbox and I thought it was 5/8ths fine thread but not so sure now.

Thats what my manual says. I believe it means 16mm nut with 17 threads per inch.

Eddie is correct, metric, 16mm x 1.5, also known in the south as 16mm 'fine thread' at the hardware stores. I was looking some time ago for nylock nuts for my axle, and no one had them. I would order from online supplier, or try fastenal if there is one close by, would probly save time and gas.

Great, thanks. Lowes selection stops at 12mm x 1.5...will have to check a fastener store.

I know Home Depot had 16mm nuts and washers, but only in coarse thread pitch, I opted for lock washers, but you need the actual nut itself. BMI should have them available, but its probably worth getting a pair of nylock ones somewhere else after they get you with the shipping.

I did not see them on BMI, thanks for the link. I opted to get some nylocks from McMaster-Carr. $8.80 for 10 of them I think it was, plus I needed a few other things they have also.
